Research Overview

My current research aims to obtain a better understanding of the existence and characteristics of eye movement disorders in school-age children. I am particularly interested in possible associations between such eye movement disorders and learning difficulties as well as other conditions. My research features a clinical element as it aims to evaluate the current clinical techniques and tests used to assess eye movements in optometric practice, and has the long term goal to developing an improved system for recognising and referring children with eye movement disorders. My general interests include paediatric optometry and eye care in children and adults with special needs.

Teaching Overview

I am involved in clinical supervision of 1st year students in the Basic Clinical Techniques module. In this module, students learn the principles of refraction as well as sight test routines.

I occasionally supervise 3rd year students in the Special Assessment Clinic, while they perform sight tests on children and adults with special education needs.
