Cardiff University in Top 100 in Times World University Subject Rankings

For the first time, Cardiff University has entered the Times Higher Education World University Rankings Top 100 for Education and Social Sciences.

Cardiff University is now ranked 78th for Education and 91st for Social Sciences in the Times World University Rankings.

The news follows the recent announcement that Cardiff University was named Welsh University of the Year in The Times Good University Guide 2018 and climbed 20 places to 162nd in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

Now in their 13th year, the THE World University Rankings, audited by PcW, rank 1,102 institutions worldwide, drawing on 195 separate data points on each of around 1,500 of the world’s leading research universities, as well as 250,000 items of reputation data and bibliometric data from Elsevier, based on almost 62m citations to the 12.4m research publications over five years.

This year the School of Social Sciences has also celebrated being ranked in the top 75 institutions for Sociology and top 300 for Education in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, otherwise known as the Shanghai Ranking.

Of the result, Dr Tom Hall, Head of the School of Social Sciences said: “I am delighted with this outcome and am pleased for and proud of my colleagues, whose hard work and dedication have made it possible. More than anything, I am pleased for our students; it is gratifying to think of them pursuing studies placed so very high in the Times Higher Education global subject ranking.”
