Half marathon success for University runners

1 October 2017

Cardiff Half Marathon

Hundreds of University staff, students and alumni have successfully completed the Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon.

They were part of a record entry for this year’s race with all 25,000 places sold out weeks ahead of the starting gun being fired.

Many ran as part of our own #TeamCardiff to raise funds for the University’s research into cancer and neuroscience & mental health.

Other staff and students volunteered around the course to ensure that the event was a success.

The University is title sponsor and has extended its involvement until at least 2020.

Race finishers each received a medal depicting Main Building to commemorate our support of the event.

Prior to the main race, a day-long Festival of Running for all ages took place on Saturday 30 September.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Karen Holford, who was official starter for the first wave of half marathon runners, said: “It was inspiring to see so many Cardiff University runners and volunteers contributing so much towards making this such a successful event.

“I would like to congratulate everyone who took part, in whatever capacity, and thank you for your efforts...”

“A particularly big thanks goes to the fantastic #TeamCardiff runners who took part to raise vital funds for the University’s research into cancer and neuroscience & mental health.”
