Postgraduate research students and staff took time out last week to attend the 9th Engineering Postgraduate Research Conference which is designed specifically for our research students.

The conference was held from the 3rd to 5th of July at Gregynog Conference Centre in mid Wales. The aim of the conference is to promote interaction between academic staff, research staff and students across the School of Engineering in a pleasant and relaxed environment.

Participants enjoyed a full programme of presentations and poster sessions and in the evenings took part in social activities including the traditional Quiz Night organised by Dr Roger Grosvenor.

A competition was run alongside the conference for the best paper presentation and the best poster presentation.

Worthy winners were:

Best Poster:  Hasneen Al Asadi

Joint 2nd Prize: Mazin Al-Shidani and Michael Barter

Best Presentation: Syed Muaaz-us-Salam

Joint 2nd Prize: Simon Hutt and Konstantinos Karras

Dr Peter Cleall, Head of Postgraduate Research Students, said: “The conference is an excellent way for students to practice their presentation skills, share their expertise with colleagues, and get to know staff and other students.”
