Academia Europaea elects Dianne Edwards as a member

28 November 2014

Dianne Edwards has been elected to membership of the Academia Europaea in recognition of her international scholarship and sustained contribution to European research. She will be involved with the Organismic & Evolutionary Biology Section.

The Academia Europaea is the pan European Academy of Sciences, Humanities and Letters. Its members are scientists and scholars who collectively aim to promote learning, education and research. The Academia Europaea was founded in 1988, and now has about 3000 members, with world leading experts from the physical sciences and technology, biological sciences and medicine, mathematics, the letters and humanities, social and cognitive sciences, economics and the law.  It makes recommendations to national governments and international agencies concerning matters affecting science, scholarship and academic life in Europe. The Academy identifies topics of trans-European importance to science and scholarship, proposes appropriate action to ensure that these issues are adequately studied and encourages interdisciplinary and international research. As a result of the international, multi-disciplinary nature of its work, the Academia Europaea hopes to promote a better understanding of the benefits of knowledge and learning, and of scientific and scholarly issues which affect society, its quality of life and its standards of living.
