Public Value in Action - School Governance strengthened

6 March 2017

Cardiff Business School has agreed new, progressive, governance enhancement frameworks relating to its Welsh language provision and partnership working between academic and professional services colleagues.

These initiatives are a key element of the School’s commitment to embed Public Value principles in its own governance, the third stream of work alongside its Public Value teaching & learning and research & engagement activities.

The first action plan on Welsh Language Provision places a greater emphasis on enabling and supporting staff to learn Welsh as part of their personal and professional development as well as a commitment to ensure key staff documents, such as the School’s regular Staff Newsletter, are provided bilingually. It also focuses on ensuring that all of the School’s physical and electronic signage is bilingual, that customer facing staff can greet visitors bilingually, and that all-student messages and key documents are bilingual.

The School is grateful to Dr Eleri Rosier, its Welsh Language Champion and member of People Committee, for her help with this work.

The second action plan considered enhancing the working relationships between professional services and academic colleagues. This considered co-creation of staff and student communications, increasing opportunities for self-direction of training and development and clarity of roles and responsibilities to better facilitate partnership working.

The School is grateful to Professor Julian Gould-Williams and Dr Andy Davies, Chair and member of the School’s innovative Shadow Management Board, for their help with this work.
