After holding auditions earlier this year, Welsh male voice choir Only Men Aloud announced this week that School of Music alum Steffan Hughes will be the newest addition to their ranks.

Steffan is a 22 year old tenor from Denbighshire in North Wales who grew up with a rich folk music background which he complemented with classical training at the School of Music, graduating with a First Class BMus degree from Cardiff University in 2015.

He will join the Only Men Aloud team as their newest tenor while they continue to perform across the world as an eight piece vocal group. Steffan said: "I am very excited to be joining Only Men Aloud in January 2017. They are an extremely talented group of singers who perform great repertoire and challenging arrangements. There are some exciting projects ahead in 2017!"

Aside from his academic musical training at the School, Steffan also sang with the Chamber Choir and Contemporary Music Group for three years, as well as completing the ensemble module and individual recitals.

He commented on his time at the School of Music which was a critical period of musical development for him: "The School of Music offers fantastic singing teachers, and I was fortunate enough to be placed with the soprano, Gail Pearson, who has helped me tremendously over the past 4 years."

"My time at the Cardiff University School of Music has definitely influenced me to pursue a career in music. From discovering and exploring new repertoire, to working with professional musicians, and receiving brilliant training by my singing teacher, I was very fortunate to have spent 3 years studying at the department."
