Cardiff rises to World Top 150 spot

Cardiff University has risen to a top 150 spot in the 2014 world university rankings for the first time in six years.

The 2014 Academic Ranking of World Universities league table, published today, also lists Cardiff in the UK top 20.

The data, released by the Centre for World Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, have been published since 2003 and are recognised as a benchmark of international university performance.

Cardiff's Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Dylan Jones, said: "The broad subject fields published today show we are ranked in the world's top 100 for life sciences, whilst medicine ranks in the world's top 150. These successes have helped us make significant progress in the Academic Ranking of World Universities."

The 2014 table shows Harvard University remains world number one for the 12th year. Other Top 10 universities are Stanford, MIT, Berkeley, Cambridge and Oxford.
