Business School director honoured

15 May 2013

Dr Barrie Kennard, the director of Leadership & Management Wales (LMW), based in Cardiff Business School, has been recognised for making "a significant, special and outstanding contribution" to his organisation.

Dr Kennard received the inaugural Director's Award at the Institute of Directors (IoD) Wales Awards.

The award is given at the discretion of the Wales Director of the IoD, and has been established to honour individuals who have made a significant, special and outstanding contribution to their particular organisation, business or sector.

Presenting the award, the Wales Director of the IoD, Robert Lloyd-Grifffiths, said: "This inaugural award goes to an individual who plays a pivotal role in bringing business and academia together. Put quite simply, this person talks the language of business and utilises their skill, flair, humour and common sense approach to bringing a greater understanding and a closer participation between the business and higher education sectors. "

Leadership & Management Wales is the centre for excellence for leadership and management skills in Wales, funded by the Welsh Government and European Social Fund, to benefit businesses of all sizes and sectors across Wales.

LMW supports businesses in developing their leadership and management development skills, enabling them to increase efficiency and help grow the economy in Wales.

It is run by a consortium, led by Cardiff Business School, and including Aberystwyth University, Glyndwr University and Tattum Guest Associates Ltd.

Dr Kennard said: "It's a great honour to receive this award, but you can't be a director on your own, and awards are never about one person. This really recognises the fantastic team at LMW - because our success is entirely due to them."
