Supporting The Way Forward

25 July 2013

Vice-Chancellor City Region Board

Many of you will be aware of the launch of The Way Forward, setting out the strategic direction and focus for our University. Our overall ambition is clear: to rank consistently among the top 100 universities in the world and the top 20 in Britain.

In this edition of Blas, our thematic Pro Vice-Chancellors outline what this means for their respective areas of focus. In the new academic year there will be a wider programme of staff engagement on these plans including town hall meetings to learn more.

Professor Patricia Price discusses how she will support The Way Forwardfor Education and Students and build on current good practice to provide a positive and enriching student experience.

You'll hear from Professor Hywel Thomas on Research, Innovation, Enterprise, International and Engagement. We'll also introduce the Cardiff University Innovation System which will span the whole academic range of the University, with two main locations, Maindy Road and Heath Park, where disciplines will converge to promote translational research and entrepreneurial education.

Importantly, you can read the supporting documents, in full. They provide the full picture of what we want to achieve, how we will achieve this and most importantly how we will measure our progress.

We are already well on our way with REF and Institutional Review coming up in the next academic year.  I appreciate that a lot of hard work is underway on these key milestones and would like to thank and recognise all staff contributing to these important areas.

I hope you enjoy this edition of Blas.

Professor Colin Riordan

Vice-Chancellor
