Pete Hong, an undergraduate teaching clinic supervisor in the School for many years, has been made an MBE for services to Optometry

The School is absolutely delighted that Pete Hong, an undergraduate teaching clinic supervisor in the School for many years, has been made an MBE for services to Optometry, particularly voluntary service to Optometry abroad.

For more than a decade, he has taught at the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences and takes students to Moldova, Malawi and Romania to provide sight tests and spectacles free of charge in his own time and often funded with his own money.

Approximately 20,000 people have received sight tests and been given glasses as a result of his projects. As well as his trips abroad he is Trustee for Onami Eye Foundation in Malawi and advisor to the charity Heart 4U.

Huge congratulations to Pete!
