Dr Christopher Hood of the School of Modern Languages is speaking at the fifth Experience Japan Exhibition which is taking place in London this November.

The exhibition, which is held on 14 November at The Royal Society, aims to highlight the growing range of study and work opportunities available in Japan.

The seminar line-up throughout the day is varied and offers participants the chance to learn about the basics of life in Japan and hear directly from speakers with experience of studying and working there.

Dr Hood will be speaking about Japan’s bullet train, the Shinkansen. His talk will cover its planning during the Pacific War and its launch in 1964 which coincided with the first Tokyo Olympics, right up to the modern day and the super sleek models which are now in operation.

This event will be useful for students who are interested in studying further at the postgraduate level in Japan as well as those who are keen to have experience working outside the UK.

Further details and a detailed summary of all talks can be found on the Experience Japan website.
