The only postgraduate student among the seven, Sally will represent Team Wales in the pole vault competition.

She has competed for Great Britain at the 2011 Summer Universiade and the 2012 European Athletics Championships, in addition to representing Wales at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

All seven students are part of the University's High Performance Programme (HPP), which this year supported a record 75 students across 30 sports.

Paul Jones, Performance Sport Officer for Cardiff University Sport, said: “We are really proud of the achievements of our athletes.

"No Cardiff students were involved in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Four years on, we have seven current students selected to represent Wales – a record number for the University.

"Balancing the life of a student at a Russell Group University with that of an aspiring elite athlete is far from easy and they have made many sacrifices along the way. We wish them all the best of luck in Glasgow!”
