Former MA Urban Design student Clara Köhler has won a prestigious urban design award for her plan to re-integrate several of Swansea’s underused and forgotten city centre alleyways.

The project won the Student Award at the Urban Design Group’s National Urban Design Awards for 2015.

Clara’s submission, Re-imagining Swansea High Street - The Green Lanes, was based upon work carried out during her time studying Urban Design at Cardiff University and proposed a 'greening' strategy for the re-use of the lanes where High Street and King's Lane meet.

The design focused upon two approaches, one for activating the lanes through community events and one for improving the environment.

The activation strategy explored how greening can be combined with community, arts and culture as well as retail. It sought to bring people to the lanes and increase their usage through temporary and regular events, as well as installations.
