Teachers from across Wales attend the Chinese language immersion course organised by Cardiff Confucius Institute.

On Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th November, the seventh Mandarin Immersion course took place.

The Mandarin Immersion Course is funded through the Welsh Government's Wales China Schools Project and allows teachers to take part in an intensive basic Mandarin language course. Participants are taught by tutors from Cardiff Confucius Institute and the course covers how to teach basic Mandarin, as well as giving a cultural background to the language learning.

This year six teachers from North and South Wales took part representing a mix of Primary and Secondary schools who have already introduced or who have shown significant interest in introducing Mandarin into their school’s curriculum.

Iona Jones from Ysgol Cwm Rhymni who attended the course said it was a “great course, very intense but extremely rewarding. Our tutor was great in letting us have breaks when necessary and pushed us to experiment by creating our own sentences using vocabulary we had learnt”.

All six teachers will now be able to apply what they have learnt in the classroom and share their knowledge of Mandarin with their pupils so that they in turn can gain an understanding of China, its language and culture.
