Violin on top of music scores

The School of Music has achieved an outstanding 98% overall satisfaction in the latest National Student Survey (NSS).

Published annually, the NSS surveys final year undergraduate students and asks them to rate their University experience in areas including teaching, academic support and personal development.

This fantastic score puts Cardiff University in first place for overall satisfaction for Music students among Russell Group universities, a group of 24 leading UK universities.

As well as the fantastic rate of overall satisfaction, 100% of respondents agreed that they had been able to access specialised equipment, facilities or rooms when they needed to.

The School of Music is home to more than two dozen practice rooms, three ensemble rooms and four electro-acoustic studios equipped to industry standard, as well as a 250-seat concert hall.

Of 69 institutions offering Music degrees, the School of Music ranked 4th for Student Experience.

We offer our students the opportunity to perform with a variety of School-led musical ensembles, along with more than 15 Student-led groups. Our students also benefit from a packed schedule of professional performances, workshops and events held in our Concert Hall throughout the year, along with concerts and performances organised by our student body.

This result follows the recent announcement that 100% of 2017 graduates from the School were in employment and/or further study within six months of graduation.

Professor Kenneth Hamilton, Head of the School of Music, said: “This outstanding result is a testament to the supportive, stimulating musical community created by students and staff in the School of Music.”
