Cardiff graduates are more likely to be in employment, study or both within six months of graduating than any other leading Russell Group university, new figures have revealed

According to the latest Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education figures, the percentage of full-time first degree leavers in 2013/14 who were employed, studying or both was 95.5 per cent, or 2,895 out of a total of 3,035.

The figure shows a slight improvement on the previous year (95.1%) and ensures Cardiff is ranked the Russell Group's highest in the student employability stakes – ahead of leading UK universities like Oxford and Cambridge.

It also confirms Cardiff as Wales's top ranked university.

Pro-Vice Chancellor for Students, Professor Patricia Price said: "I am delighted by these figures.

"They confirm our position as the best amongst the elite Russell Group and in Wales for the employability of our students.

"Turning theory into practical application and providing experience of the working world are important facets of preparing our graduates for life outside of education.

"We encourage our students to think about life beyond University from day one, offering modules and support to give them competitive advantage on graduating.

"Advice is available on work placements, internships, work experience and opportunities to enhance your CV and broaden your horizons. Support with job applications and interview techniques are also available.

"As a result, we are highly regarded by employers and have an excellent graduate employment record with students finding employment or entering further training."

HESA will release more detailed Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education 2013/14 data later this month (23rd July).
