BNA members get brainy at Buffalo Bar!

Mind-boggling fun was enjoyed by all at a brain games event hosted by the British Neuroscience Association (BNA) at Cardiff’s Buffalo Bar on Thursday 16 November.
Around 20 BNA members joined together for the neuro-night, which gave neuroscience professionals and enthusiasts an opportunity to meet and engage with others in the field while enjoying free wine, food and a range of interactive brain-related challenges.
The evening was organised by Cardiff-based representatives of the BNA, which is the largest UK organisation representing and promoting neuroscience. With attendees consisting of Cardiff University students, academics and members of the public with a keen interest in neuroscience, the event was primarily geared towards introducing this diverse community to the BNA’s wider network.
It also served as a great opportunity to try out some of the fantastic activities that will appear at next year’s annual Brain Games event at Cardiff Museum on Sunday 18 March 2018 (more event details to follow).
'Positive response'
Activities on offer included Giant Brain Jenga, vision distorting prism goggles, correctly identifying animal brains, ‘Stroop Racing’ and, of course, jelly brain prizes for the most steady-handed ‘neurosurgeon’ during an Operation Brain challenge.
The classic ‘Ghost Hand’ also made an appearance, whereby mirror trickery is used to confuse the participant’s brain into not knowing which hand is being touched with a paintbrush.
“We are delighted by the overwhelmingly positive response to our first event,” said BNA student representative Frankie Keefe, who is studying PhD Integrative Neuroscience at Cardiff University’s NMHRI.
“Developing strong relationships and collaborations is essential to progress in the field of neuroscience, and it was fantastic to see our members coming together to have fun but also make new friends and learn more about the brain.”
