Congratulations to Engineering postgraduate student, Hua Xiao, who has won a prestigious American Society of Mechanical Engineers International Gas Turbine Institute scholarship to study with our Gas Turbine Research Centre.

Hua Xiao has been chosen to receive a scholarship sponsored by the International Gas Turbine Institute, and will receive funding of $US 2,000 to continue his PhD studies with the School of Engineering. The funding is intended for assistance with tuition, books and other university expenses.

To be considered for a scholarship, a student of high academic standing must be enrolled at an accredited college or university, in the United States or abroad, that has a gas turbine program or related content within its engineering curriculum.

Hua Xiao received his BSc in Engineering Thermophysics from South China University of Technology in 2014. His research topic focuses on combustion of ammonia-based fuels in gas turbines, and his research interests are effective utilisation of renewable energies and combustion of novel alternative fuels.

ASME International Gas Turbine Institute has a long and proud history of providing scholarships to students who show promise for their future profession in the turbomachinery field. The aim is to attract young talent to the profession and reward their commitment, supporting their research degree enrolment and active participation. They only award a small number of these scholarships each year and this award recognises the high academic quality of the work Hua Xiao is undertaking.
