Malaysian students retell epic tale in music spectacular

08 February 2012

The Malaysian Students’ Society of Cardiff University is undertaking its most ambitious and spectacular production – with a stage and musical performance of the epic.

Pahlawan the Musical: A Tale of a Malayan Warrior is Hang Tuah’s story - a tale of love, brotherhood and loyalty which has inspired Malaysian people for generations. The students have transformed it into a musical play, combining a range of stage and dance styles. The play is followed by Dikir Barat, a stirring traditional musical performance performed by a 45-strong student ensemble.

Hugo Tan Jian Hao, President of the Malaysian Students’ Society, said: "This year’s Festival is on a much bigger scale than anything we have done before. We aim to showcase Malaysia's diverse and colourful culture and ethnic background to an audience from around the world."

The Festival of Diversity, now in its 9th year, is Cardiff Malaysian students’ own brand of Malaysian Night, organised by Malaysian societies across the UK. The Cardiff event has won numerous awards over the years, including Cardiff Students’ Union‘s Best Musical Performance of 2011.

Tickets for Pahlawan, on Saturday, February 8th , are on sale at . The official trailer is at .
