The man behind the campaign to reclaim bank charges, council tax, mortgage fees, and more; savings consumers billions will deliver a public lecture at Cardiff University on how individuals are fighting back against corporate giants in the multimedia age.
Almost 10 years after studying Broadcast Journalism at Cardiff University, Martin Lewis, founder of Britain’s biggest and most popular money website moneysavingexpert.com, is back with a public lecture - ‘consumer revenge’ – his own insight into how to get revenge and become a more savvy and wealthy consumer.
On Wednesday 5 December, the star of numerous TV and radio programmes, including ITV’s Tonight, GM-TV, BBC Radio 1 & 2 and his own ITV series Make Me Rich and author of the best selling books including The Money Diet, will be revealing his secrets of how to become a more powerful consumer in today’s internet age. It forms part of the Cardiff Business Alumni Lecture series.
The journalist and broadcaster started his website with just £100 four years ago; and now over three million people use the site each month and his weekly e-mail goes to 1.5million people.A former columnist for the Sunday Express, Guardian and The Sunday Times, Mr Lewis said: "Companies spend billions of pounds every year on marketing, advertising, sales training and yet, as consumers, we don’t get any training on how to be an effective buyer. The internet is helping turn the tables as consumers become more active and savvy, shifting the balance of power more in favour of the consumer."
The lecture is the second in a series of Cardiff Business Alumni Lectures by prominent and successful Cardiff University alumni and on this occasion is jointly hosted by the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies and Cardiff Business School. Previous speakers have included David Smith, economic editor of The Sunday Times who returned to give his personal view of Britain’s economic recovery.
