Vice-Chancellor to chair STEMNET board

Vice-Chancellor Dr David Grant has joined STEMNET’s Board of Trustees.

STEMNET’s aim is to ensure that all young people, regardless of background, are encouraged to understand the excitement and importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in their lives, and the career opportunities to which the STEM subjects can lead.

Dr Grant will oversee key national activities and strategies aimed at inspiring young people in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Dr Grant began his career as an engineering apprentice with the Reyrolle Parsons Group. The professional success which followed included leadership roles in international manufacturing. Dr Grant was awarded the Institution of Electrical Engineers’ (now the IET) Mensforth Gold Medal in 1996. This annual award is presented to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of manufacturing engineering technology or manufacturing management.

As Vice-President of the Royal Academy of Engineering and board member of the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education, Dr Grant is an advocate for enriching STEM education and opportunities for young people to engage with these subjects.
