The Chairman of one of the UK’s most successful banks will share his thoughts on the current recession and strategies to survive it in a keynote lecture at Cardiff Business School this week (Wednesday 4th November).
Lord Burns, Chairman of Abbey National plc, non-executive director of Banco Santander, and Chairman of Glas Cymru Ltd (Welsh Water) will consider the economic environment in the context of the recessions he has experienced in his working life - as Chief Economic Advisor to the Government; as Permanent Secretary at Her Majesty’s Treasury; as Chairman of Abbey; and as a non-executive of one of the world’s largest and most successful banks.
He will discuss the consequences for monetary and fiscal policy of recent events and the challenges facing the authorities in the period ahead.
Terry Burns has held positions such as Chairman of Marks and Spencer Group plc and has been a non-executive director of The British Land Company plc Legal & General Group plc (1999-2001), and Chairman of the National Lottery Commission. He was also a Member of the House of Lords Economic Affairs Select Committee.
