Scholarship Opportunities

08 February 2011

The School of City and Regional Planning has been awarded six Scholarships as part of a Cardiff University scheme that aims to promote excellence and impact of research in all academic disciplines. Four of these scholarships have already been filled in 2010/11 and two are still available for 2011/12.

CPLAN will invest these highly-prestigious PhD scholarships to strengthen and expand its ongoing and internationally renowned research on Food and Sustainable City-Regions.

We are seeking high-quality applicants (starting from October 2011) to build a new research community around one cutting-edge research question: what is the role of different actors, governance levels, spatial scales and pro-poor planning strategies in reconnecting cities (physically, economically and socially) with their surrounding countryside? To address this question, we have designed two interrelated PhD projects around the following themes:

  • Sustainable rural-urban linkages: the role of bamboo in China
  • Addressing food in spatial planning systems: a comparative study.

Application Deadline: Friday 4th March 2011.
