Dr Cathy Holt is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and Senior Lecturer at the School of Engineering at Cardiff University. She is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers has been invited to present her work at several UK and international meetings and conferences. She studied mechanical engineering at Cardiff, her PhD was related to the contact and lubrication of jet aircraft gears and bearings.
She then moved into medical engineering as Manager of the Cardiff Motion Analysis Laboratory.
Dr Holt now directs motion analysis research in the School and has a large team of young medical engineers, many of whom are women, working on projects ranging from orthopaedic biomechanics to characterising the mechanics of skin. She is a Theme Leader for the recently awarded Arthritis Research Campaign Biomechanics and Bioengineering Research Centre, a cross-disciplinary team who will be working to correlate the causes, effects and treatment of osteoarthritis.
Cathy sits on the WISE in Wales Committee and has previously organised SEMTA Engineering Summer Schools.
