International students from the University’s academy for opera stars are launching their autumn concert series with a stirring performance of Russian and American songs.
The Bear and the Eagle concert is the first in a series of recitals given by students from the Cardiff International Academy of Voice.
The Academy provides a highly specialised and unique environment for exceptional singers at the early-professional stage, to develop and polish their talent to the highest standards.
Students Norah King from Ireland, Tanya Pivovarova from the Ukraine, Rhys Jenkins from Wales and Piotr Lempa from Poland will perform a selection of work including Russian songs by Tchaikovsky, Dargomizhsky and Rachmaninov, and American songs by Samuel Barber and Aaron Copland.
Accompanying the students will be renowned conductor Andrew Greenwood.
The concert takes place on Friday 7 November 2008 at 7.30pm. It will be followed by an Operatic Gala on 16 November, a song recital on 30 November, and a masterclass on Tuesday 9th December.
All concerts take place at the University concert hall on Corbett Road, CF10 3EB.Tickets cost £12 full price, £10 concessions and £3.00 students. The Academy is also offering special deals for Cardiff University staff and students. Tickets can be bought from the Academy on 02920 481853.
