University students and staff from across the Heath Park Campus gathered last Tuesday evening at the IV Lounge for an annual welcome event for international students.
The evening opened with a welcome address from Professor Helen Houston, School of Medicine, and continued with a series of addresses from students who occupy official positions - Sarah Halpin, Heath Integration officer for Cardiff's Students’ Union, Khadija Jamal, Chair of the Medical Society and Sarah Cavil, a former Occupational Therapy student and now an Erasmus ambassador for the British Council.
Gareth Morgan, School of Healthcare studies said: "A common feature of the event was the recurring theme of inter-professionalism and the genuine warmth of the varied welcomes.
These were followed by anecdotal accounts from second year international students who recounted some of the challenges and coping strategies they adopted to help them survive the first year."
The many staff from the across the site, who gave up their evening to attend, demonstrably added to the sense of occasion and fun. The event was also supported by the Communications and International Relations Division.
