15 October 2008
The South Wales launch of the 2009 Leading Wales Awards is to take place at a special breakfast event held at the University.
Hosted by Cardiff Business School, the breakfast launch will take place on Wednesday 15th October 2008 when invited guests will be able to find out more about the Awards.
Now in their fifth year, the Awards recognise great leadership at all levels across the public, private and voluntary sectors in Wales. Last year, Sam Smith, chair of the Board of Cardiff Students Volunteering at the University was a winner in the Young Leader category.
Professor Robert Morgan, of Cardiff Business School, said "As an institution which is committed to providing the best business education for the leaders of today and of the future, we are delighted to support the Leading Wales Awards. The Awards pay tribute to those who will, no doubt, directly influence Wales' future development."
The School is a consortium partner in the Awards, and is also sponsoring the prize for Leadership in Businesses with more than 250 employees.
Barbara Chidgey, spokesperson for the Leading Wales Awards said: "All the consortium members and its sponsors share a passionate belief that leadership skills are absolutely key to successful businesses and organisations and ultimately in contributing to driving up the economy of Wales. In these uncertain financial times, it will be good leadership at all levels of responsibility that will give every organisation and business its ‘cutting edge’ to discover and create opportunity for growth from the challenges that face us all.
"More than ever Wales needs to identify and celebrate all those people at all levels and in all sectors whose leadership is making a real difference, so that we can celebrate what they are achieving and learn from them and emulate what it is that they are doing."
Nominations for the 2009 Awards close on Friday November 28 2008. Further information can be found at www.leadingwalesawards.com
