Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and founder of the Ethical Globalization Initiative is to deliver the first Hadyn Ellis Distinguished Lecture.
The public lecture, ‘Ethical globalization – a challenge for the 21st century’, will focus on the key challenges facing a global society which needs to position human rights at the heart of governance and policy-making.
President Robinson is a committed advocate of human rights and the lecture will draw upon her wealth of experience in the field of ethical globalization, including her time as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The lecture marks a fitting tribute to Professor Hadyn Ellis CBE DSc (1945-2006), formerly Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Cardiff University. Professor Ellis also served a long and successful period as Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and was Head of the School of Psychology for many years.
The Vice-Chancellor Dr David Grant said: "The University is pleased to welcome Mary Robinson, a politician and humanitarian of international standing, to give this public lecture, a tribute to Professor Hadyn Ellis.
"Hadyn was a respected member of our community, a pioneering academic whose commitment to this University was invaluable in furthering Cardiff’s reputation for excellence in research. Hadyn built foundations that will support and sustain our success for many years to come. We all owe him a great debt of gratitude."
The lecture, part of the University’s 125th anniversary celebrations, takes place on Friday 7 November at the Julian Hodge Lecture Theatre. A pre-lecture reception commences at 18:45pm, followed by the lecture at 19:45pm.
Please note that, due to the large level of interest in this lecture, tickets are no longer available.
This lecture is sponsored by the Waterloo Foundation, an independent grant-making foundation based in Wales.
