Cardiff Business students will have access to the world’s latest economic and financial data after signing-up for a leading international financial database.
Cardiff Business School is the first university in Wales to offer students’ access to the Wharton Research Data Service, a leading financial database providing the latest financial data.
"Signing-up for the Wharton Research Data Service provides Cardiff Business School and our students access to the latest financial data from across the world," according to Professor Marc Goergen, the Programme Director, from Cardiff Business School, "With only twelve universities in the UK having access and Cardiff Business School being the only one in Wales, this places Cardiff firmly on the world financial map" he added.
Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) is a web-based business data research service from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Developed in 1993 to support faculty research at Wharton, the service has since evolved to include over 250 institutions worldwide.
The investment confirms Cardiff Business School’s position as one of the UK’s leading centres for financial teaching and research.
In addition to the £60K annual investment in the new data service, Cardiff Business School has unveiled a new MSc in Finance designed to equip its students with the skills and experience necessary for a career in finance.
Students also have a unique opportunity to experience life as a trader, with a fully functioning trading floor, where they can compete to see if they can turn their knowledge of finance to their own advantage.
Professor Goergen added: "Ensuring students have access to these databases and the opportunity to apply theory in a practical way will help make our graduates more attractive to future employers."
