A lecturer in the School of Welsh is Chair of the Welsh language Judging Panel for Wales’ main literary award this year.
The Wales Book of the Year award, administered by Literature Wales, is awarded to the year’s best book from Wales, or with a Welsh connection, in both English and Welsh. The winning authors will receive £10,000 each.
Dr Simon Brooks will announce the name of the Welsh language winner in a glamorous Oscar-style ceremony on Thursday 7 July 2011 at Cineworld, Cardiff.
Dr Brooks said: "I’m very much looking forward to the evening. I hope that the experience of walking the red carpet in Cardiff will be just as much fun as being in Hollywood for the real Oscars!
"Like everyone who has judged a literary competition, I have read some weird and wonderful things during the past year. But there is some fine literature being published in Wales.
"I’m delighted to have had the opportunity to chair the Judging Panel, and look forward to congratulating the winning author on the night."
