Once again, Cardiff recorded a comprehensive victory in the annual Varsity Sports Challenge. Of the 22 sports played, Cardiff ran out victorious in seventeen.
Cardiff's seventeen victories included triumphs in men's football (3:0 to Cardiff) ladies' football (4:1 to Cardiff) rowing (men's and ladies') ladies' rugby (61:5) men's cricket, netball (62:35) squash (men's and ladies) basketball (ladies and men's) and badminton (ladies and men's).
One of the few defeats was men's rugby, sponsored by accenture, and congratulations go to Swansea which, in a hard fought game at Cardiff's Arms Park, overcame a spirited Cardiff team 18:0. Six nil down at half-time, Cardiff dominated play for most of the second half but two tries at either end of the half, one of which was converted, saw Swansea home comfortably by the final whistle.
