Personalities from the spheres of dentistry, music, journalism, the environment and medicine are amongst those to be honoured by the University at its annual degree ceremonies (July 11, 16, 17 and 18).
As Controller of BBC Wales Ms Menna Richards is responsible for all of BBC Wales' services in English and Welsh on radio, television and online. Ceremony: 17th July 10:30am.
Mr William Wilkins CBE DL Hon FRIBA is also an artist and specialist in heritage and cultural regeneration and has exhibited in London, New York, San Francisco and Cardiff. Ceremony: 11th July 10:30am.
Mr John Belle FAIA RIBA is a founding partner of Beyer Blinder Belle Architects and Planners. Three of Mr Belle’s projects received the Presidential Design Award, the highest design award for public architecture in the United States. Ceremony: 16th July 1:30pm
Mr Huw Llywelyn Davies is Chairman of the Cardiff National Eisteddfod Executive Committee for 2008. As BBC and S4C’s chief rugby commentator, he has commentated on almost every Wales rugby international since 1979 and also five World Cups and six Lions tours. Ceremony: 16th July 4:30pm
Mr Evan Davis is the Economics Editor of the BBC. He is the most senior economics reporter in the BBC, responsible for analysing economic developments on a range of programmes on BBC radio and television, particularly the Ten O'Clock News. Ceremony: 17th July 1:30pm
Sir Peter Gershon CBE FREng Hon FIET is Chairman of Premier Farnell plc., General Healthcare Group and Symbian Ltd. He was appointed CBE (2000) for services to industry and knighted (2004) for his work on public procurement. Ceremony: July 17th 10:30am
Dr Sue Greening is Associate Clinical Director of the Community Dental Service in Gwent. She is also chair of the British Society of Disability and Oral Health (BSDH) and a member of the Joint Advisory Committee for Special Care Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Most recently she was the elected President of the British Dental Association. Ceremony: 11th July 10:30am
Mr Patrick Hannan is the presenter of two weekly programmes on BBC Radio Wales. He has also produced television documentaries for BBC 2, BBC Wales and HTV and has worked on other TV documentaries as a writer and presenter. Ceremony: 17th July 10:30am
Professor Bryan Jones is University Professor Emeritus in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto. His work has changed the way the world’s organic chemists approach the synthesis of important molecules. Ceremony: 18th July 4:30pm
Mr Saleem Asghar Kidwai OBE is Chief Executive of the Ethnic Business Support Programme, an initiative to encourage and support members from the ethnic community at pre-business start-up stages. He is also Trustee of the South Wales Islamic Educational Trust and Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Wales. Ceremony: 18th July 1:30pm
Mr Roger Lewis is the Group Chief Executive of the Welsh Rugby Union and the Millennium Stadium plc. During his career in media, music and sport he has held posts including Head of Music at BBC Radio 1, Managing Director and Programme Controller of Classic FM and Managing Director of ITV Wales. Ceremony: 17th July 1:30pm
Sir Robert Margetts CBE FREng FIChemE is Chairman of Legal & General Group plc. and Ensus plc. Sir Rob is also Chairman - Europe of Huntsman Corporation (USA) and Senior Independent Non-Executive Director of Anglo American plc. He was appointed CBE (1996) and knighted (2006) for services to science and business. Ceremony: 11th July 10:30am
Professor Peter McGuffin is Dean of the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London. His research, books and papers have been mainly on the genetics of normal and abnormal behaviour. Ceremony: 11th July 1:30pm
Mr John Metcalf is one of the foremost composers working in Wales and is presently Artistic Director of the award-winning Vale of Glamorgan Festival. His composing career embraces a large variety of work including six operas. Ceremony: 16th July 4:30pm
Mr George Monbiot is a journalist, author and environmental campaigner. His best-selling books include Heat: How to Stop the Planet Burning. In 1995 he was presented with a United Nations Global 500 Award for outstanding environmental achievement. Ceremony: 16th July 4:30pm
Ms Elaine Morgan is the author of The Descent of Woman and also contributes a weekly column to the Western Mail. Her latest book is Pinker’s List: The New Darwinists and the Left. Ceremony: 17th July 4:30pm
Professor Ian Nussey OBE MA PhD FREng HonFIET FIMechE FBCS is an Honorary Professor of the School of Engineering (since 1986) and has worked for IBM (since 1963). Ceremony: 16th July 1:30pm
Ms Sara Parkin OBE is a Founder Director and Trustee of Forum for the Future, the leading UK sustainable development charity. She works across a range of issues, with a main focus on integrating sustainability into post-school education, engineering and other professions. Ceremony: 17th July 4:30pm
Professor Nigel Stott CBE FMedSci is Emeritus Professor of General Practice. His contributions to the development of international primary health care have been widely acknowledged and his scholarship has resulted in many awards. Ceremony: 11th July 1:30pm
Miss Barbara Wilding CBE QPM CCMI FRSA is the Chief Constable of South Wales Police. She was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal in the Millennium Awards 2000 for distinguished service to policing. Ceremony: 18th July 10:30am
