Should the Harry Potter books be listed amongst the greatest of all time? JK Rowling's Harry Potter novels will be discussed in a new part-time course for adults offered by Cardiff University’s Centre for Lifelong Learning.
‘From Narnia to Harry Potter: Tradition in Children’s Fantasy Literature and Film’ is a new day school offered by the Cardiff Centre for Lifelong Learning listed in the newly launched Choices prospectus. The Harry Potter course is run by tutor Dr Dimitra Fimi who is also responsible for a hugely successful online programme of Tolkien courses. These programmes are offered as part of a portfolio of courses in Literature and Creative Writing.
The New Autumn 2007 programme lists more than 600 courses covering a wide range of subjects. Previous qualifications are not normally needed and many offer credits, which can be used to access some degree courses. Learners just need an interest in the subject and a willingness to explore it in the company of others.
The new programme of courses, with registration in August, is detailed in the latest issue of Choices, which can be obtained from the Centre on tel: 029 2087 0000 or email firstname.lastname@example.org . Choices Courses often run in 10 and 20 week blocks or as day schools and are available not only throughout the working week but also at weekends and on weekday evenings too.
Working in partnership with the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, the Centre offers funding for courses as a part of its Fee Waiver Scheme, details of eligibility criteria can be found in the prospectus.
A full week of activities, including free taster sessions is also planned at the Centre’s Open Day on Tuesday 11 September.
