Hop on a bus in Cardiff city centre and you could find yourself travelling with one of the University’s Pro Vice-Chancellors.
A photo of Professor Teresa Rees from the School of Social Sciences has been made larger than life in a city wide advertising campaign to promote Cardiff to the world.
Part of a new marketing campaign by Cardiff & Co, Professor Rees conveys the message that learning in Cardiff can be fun, serious and rewarding. She joins five other leading Cardiff figures from the worlds of business, entertainment, transport, regeneration and local government who can be seen on some of Cardiff Bus’ 13 newly launched state-of-the-art double-decker buses. Others include Bill Savage, chairman of Cardiff & Co; Jon Horne, managing director of Cardiff International Airport; Rupert Moon, commercial director at the Millennium Stadium; Mark Hallet, development director for Igloo Regeneration, and Bob Hertzberg, chairman of G24 Innovations.
Professor Rees said: "The University is very committed to playing its role in attracting visitors to Cardiff, and to it becoming an environmentally sustainable city. As one of the largest employers in Cardiff and with more than 25,000 students, this is one of the ways we are helping encourage our own staff and students and the general public to consider using public transport more often."
The latest fleet, worth £2.7m is one of the most modern fleets in the UK. Seven of the new vehicles will be used for school work with the remaining buses used to provide additional capacity across the Cardiff Bus transport network at peak times on core routes.
