Internationally renowned theatre and opera director Sir Jonathan Miller will visit the University this week to give a master class in operatic performance to Cardiff students.
Sir Jonathan, who is known as one of the world’s leading opera directors, will give a talk about his life and work to singers at the Cardiff International Academy of Voice on Friday 7 December.
Following the talk, Sir Jonathan will give the Academy students a master class in operatic direction and ensembles, offering them advice and feedback on their performances.
The Academy provides specialist training for exceptional opera singers from around the world. Through a series of master classes and workshops given by established names in the operatic world, the students are able to perfect their vocal techniques and fulfil their world performance potential.
Academy Director Dennis O’Neill said: "We’re honoured to have someone as influential and talented as Sir Jonathan visiting the University. The students will undoubtedly benefit enormously from his vast experience, and we look forward to welcoming looking forward to welcoming him to the Academy."
Sir Jonathan Miller has a career which spans almost five decades during which time he has directed Sir Laurence Olivier in the Merchant of Venice, produced and directed opera for, amongst others, Glyndebourne, and has also produced several plays and documentaries for television. Sir Jonathan has also worked as a satirist, medical consultant, sculptor and writer.
