Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks

In order to be eligible to enrol, you must obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Criminal Record Check through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) have merged to become the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). CRB checks are now called DBS checks.

How to obtain your DBS certificate

We will send you the relevant DBS form.

Please complete the form and return to us with a cheque or postal order for £44 made payable to 'Cardiff University'.

Send the form and payment to:

Cardiff University
HCARE Admissions
11th Floor
Eastgate House
35 - 43 Newport Road
Cardiff
CF24 0AB

We advise applicants to register on the DBS update service which reduces the need to apply for multiple certificates when a recheck is required.

Once you have received your DBS certificate, please ensure that you forward the original certificate and a photocopy to the Admissions Office and mark the envelope 'strictly private and confidential'. Disclosure certificates will be retained securely unless you need the certificate for another purpose.

If you are an overseas student, you will also be expected to provide a certificate of good conduct from the country where you are resident.

If you provided the necessary identification documents at your interview, there is no need to enclose them again with your DBS form. If not, or your name and address has changed since your interview, you will need to include the originals plus a photocopy of each. We would advise that you send original documents via recorded delivery.

If you are unsure of what identity documents you need to send, please visit the DBS website.
