The Cardiff School of Music is a lively and ambitious centre dedicated to world-leading research, composition and performance.
Our staff are discovering Haydn's forgotten quartets, composing for the New York Philharmonic, addressing the dark side of music and conflict, exploring postmodernism in music, revealing Birtwistle's compositional process, transforming the way period-instrument orchestras perform Beethoven, and cracking the code of the Yoruba Bata Drum.
Our reputation for international research was recognised in the last Research Assessment Exercise, which judged 70% of the School's research to be either "world-leading or "internationally excellent."
This research-led environment and unique blend of staff ensures that we offer leading teaching and research in several areas of the discipline.

Centre for Research into Historically-Informed Performance (CRHIP)
The Centre for Research into Historically-Informed Performance (CRHIP) was established in 2004 and seeks to provide the equivalent of a 'well-found laboratory' for research into performance through history.
Claire Holden, AHRC Creative Research Fellow, joined the School in 2010 to spend five years researching early nineteenth century violin playing.
