Postgraduate composer Yfat Soul Zisso has had a score chosen by BBC National Orchestra of Wales for a project aiming to showcase works by living composers worthy of wider exposure.
Soul completed her undergraduate degree at the School last year and is currently an MMus Composition student. Her score – From the Darkness – is one of six chosen for the project led by Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC NOW, Jac van Steen, Composer-in-Residence Simon Holt and Resident Composer Mark Bowden.
Soul said: "I am extremely excited to have gotten this amazing opportunity to have my orchestral piece workshopped by BBC NOW. After going to countless concerts by the orchestra, I feel honoured and privileged that they will play through a piece of my own."
The composers will take part in workshops at Hoddinott Hall on Sunday 3 March 2013 after which a selection of the scores will be chosen for an afternoon rehearsal and an evening concert on Monday 4 March 2013. These events are all open to the public. Free tickets are available from the BBC NOW Audience Line on 0800 052 1812.
The project is part of the BBC NOW’s Education and Community Outreach and aims to showcase works by living composers worthy of wider exposure. It is organised in collaboration with Composers of Wales, Ty Cerdd, and the Welsh Music Guild.
