Creative Wales award for graduate
Cardiff graduate John Rea has been awarded a £12,000 Creative Wales award from the Arts Council of Wales to help develop a new project.
Composer John joins more than twenty other artists to be given awards in a celebration of Welsh creativity. The recepients were announced last night (22 March 2012) at a reception held at Galeri, Caernarfon.
John is a graduate of the MMus in Composition, where he studied under Professor Alun Hoddinott CBE. Following an early career sessioning and arranging for Dave Stewart’s Anxious Records, he has quickly developed a successful career as a composer and enjoys experimenting with both traditional instrumentation and studio technology. He has achieved both critical successes, winning two Welsh BAFTAs, and numerous high-profile commissions, scoring feature films, animations, television dramas and documentaries.
His Creative Wales project will use the distant historical voices of Wales to create a powerful and emotive performance piece which combines theatre, music and archive to build an immersive and exciting “live” experience.
