There are a number of opportunities to hear Professor Kenneth Hamilton, our newest member of academic staff, on the radio this month.
On Tuesday 18th September Kenneth was interviewed live by Jamie Owen for the BBC Radio Wales Jamie and Louise Show. As well as the interview, Kenneth also tackled the studio piano (described by the show’s host as “the UK’s worst piano) and played some requests for listeners. The programme is available on BBC iPlayer for the next seven days and the interview begins approx two hours and eight minutes in: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01mrfw7
On Saturday 22nd September at 9am he will be appearing on BBC Radio 3's CD Review, discussing the week's new classical releases with Andrew McGregor.
Kenneth has already given a number of broadcasts and concerts this Summer. In June he took part in a lively but civilised debate on Radio WQXR New York, with orchestra manager Richard Dare, critic Philip Kennicott and presenter Naomi Lewin, on the present day Classical concert experience:
In July he performed music by Debussy, Liszt and Alkan at the New England Conservatory in Boston, where he also offered a guest lecture on the French Piano School. Later that month he gave a recital at the University of Rhode Island, and appeared on ABC (Australia) Radio's Counterpoint programme, where he was interviewed by Michael Duffy:
Towards the end of the Summer, Kenneth was filmed performing some Preludes by Chopin in Steinway Hall in New York for a forthcoming documentary on the composer directed by Ophra Yerushalmi, and was interviewed by Robert Loerzel for an article entitled "Classical Mania" in the US Classical Music Magazine "Listen":
