Lord Mayor's Charity Gala Concert

Cardiff University Big Band

The Cardiff University Big Band is taking part at the Lord Mayor’s Charity Gala Concert this weekend.

In aid of Cancer Research Wales, the Gala is taking place at BBC Hoddinott Hall, Wales Millennium Centre, on Friday 27th April.

Jeremy Meddows-Taylor, the band’s Musical Director, said: “Our programme is going to feature the music of the Count Basie Orchestra, Gordon Goodwin, Henry Mancini and Don Sebesky. I think the highlight of our performance though will be Bill Reddie’s arrangement of music from Bernstein’s West Side Story, which was written for the Buddy Rich Big Band back in the mid-60s.”

The event will be compered by Boyd Clack, star and writer of BBC Wales’ High Hopes and Satellite City. Other performers include internationally acclaimed baritone Mark Llewellyn Evans, Jamie Pugh (star of Britain’s Got Talent), Cardiff Male Choir, the Apollo String Quartet and Daniel and Laura Curtis, the UK’s foremost ambassadors for the music of The Great American Songbook.

Tickets for the event cost £12 and are available from www.wmc.org.uk.

The Cardiff University Big Band also recently launched a brand new website at www.cardiffuniversitybigband.co.uk. The site is full of up-to-date information, giving visitors the chance to read the latest news, watch videos, browse photos of recent gigs, look up their next performance, book the band for an event, or connect with them on social networking sites.
