Brecon Jazz Festival
Cardiff University Big Band will be performing at this year's Brecon Jazz Festival.
The internationally-renowned festival is taking place in August in the heart of the magnificent Beacons National Park. First staged in 1984, the event has hosted many leading international jazz musicians and up-and-coming local bands and artists. This year's festival is being promoted for the first time by the Cardiff-based Orchard Events and Media Group Ltd.
Brecon Jazz Club presents the Cardiff University Big Band at the 2012 festival in the Brecon Guildhall at 5:30pm on Sunday 12th August. The band will be led by its Musical Director, Jeremy Meddows-Taylor, and its set will also feature appearances from Cardiff-based groups, Giles Room Jazz and Bobby Kaner's Newblood.
Jeremy said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for the Cardiff University Big Band and a very proud day for me as MD. My aim for some time has been to see the band play at a leading jazz festival, and thanks to the hard work and dedication of its members over the last two years, this has now been achieved.
I would like to thank the Brecon Jazz Club for the invitation on behalf of us all. We are really looking forward to showcasing the high standard of jazz performance that is available at Cardiff University."
The big band's programme will feature the great swing music of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Henry Mancini and Gordon Goodwin. Tickets for the festival will be available from June 9th on www.breconjazz.com and from the Theatr Brycheiniog Box office, 01874 611622, and the 24 Hour booking line, 0844 858 8521.
