Cardiff graduate’s conducting career takes off
Michael Francis
Michael Francis, who graduated with a BMus degree in 1997, returns to Cardiff in November to make his conducting debut with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
Michael is currently Chief Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Norrkoping Symphony Orchestra. In the USA he has conducted several leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony and the Oregon Symphony Orchestra.
In November 2010 he directed the world premiere of Wolfgang Rihm’s Lichtes Spiel for violin and orchestra, with Anne-Sophie Mutter as the soloist.
