Inaugural concert of Carducci Quartet residency

October 2008

The School of Music at Cardiff University is delighted to welcome the Carducci Quartet as its new Ensemble-in-Residence for 2008-09. They follow residencies by the Sorrel Quartet (2002-05) and the Schubert Ensemble of London (2005-08). The inaugural concert by the Carducci Quartet is on Tuesday 14 October 2008.

The Carducci Quartet takes its name from the Italian town of Castagnetto-Carducci, where they have performed frequently. The players graduated from conservatoires in Ireland and the UK and have won numerous awards in Finland, France, Japan, the UK and the USA. They gave their debut recitals in London in 2006 at the Purcell Room and Wigmore Hall and recently established their own record label, Carducci Classics; their first CD is scheduled for release in 2008.

During their six concerts in Cardiff this season, the Carducci Quartet will celebrate classic works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Mendelssohn alongside mainstream twentieth-century figures such as Janacek, Bartók (Quartets nos. 1 and 4), Shostakovich and Britten as well as works by today's composers - Philip Glass (Quartets nos. 2 and 4), Peter Maxwell Davies (Quartet no. 5) and Anthony Powers (Quartet no.2).
