Four New Productions of Judith Weir's Blond Eckbert (pocket version)
October 2007
Blond Eckbert (pocket version, 2006) is a radical rethinking of Judith Weir's large-scale opera of the same name, written for English National Opera in 1994 and based on Ludwig Tieck’s classic novella. The pocket version makes it possible for 4 singers and 10 musicians to perform all the music of the original opera in just under an hour.
The pocket version was premiered by The Opera Group in the Royal Opera House’s Linbury Theatre in London during June 2006 and was followed by an English tour. Three new productions of this version of Blond Eckbert will open during the 2007-8 season:
- Berliner Kammeroper, **24 October 2007
- Tiroler Landestheater, Innsbruck, **2 November 2007
- Wiener Kammeroper, Vienna, **21 February 2008
Ensemble Sequitur of New York, a co-commissioner of the pocket version, will give the US premiere during its 2008-09 season.
