British Forum for Ethnomusicology Award

October 2007

We are delighted to announce that Eoghan Neff, a Cardiff School of Music research postgraduate, is the first recipient of the BFE Award for the best postgraduate paper presented at the British Forum for Ethnomusicology annual conference, held this year in Newcastle (19-21 April 2007).

Entitled ‘Different Histories: Aural and Literate Representations of Banish Misfortune’, his paper concerned two distinctive readings of Irish music history based upon a critical examination of extant musical scores and sound recordings.

A graduate of the University College Cork and the University of Limerick, Eoghan Neff moved last year to Cardiff University to undertake doctoral research in ethnomusicology, looking in particular at the role of ergonomics in the Donegal fiddle tradition.
