Music Analysis Conference (CarMAC)

In association with Cardiff University and the journal Music Analysis (Blackwell Publishers) the international conference of the Society of Music Analysis will take place at the School of Music, Cardiff University from Thursday 4 to Sunday 7 September 2008.

The keynote address, ‘How many ways can you fetishize a song? From Adorno to American Idol’, will be given by Rose Rosengard Subotnik (Brown University).

Cardiff University School of Music is situated within a few minutes’ walk of the city centre. The city is served by the M4 motorway and is easily accessible by road from all parts of the UK. There are direct rail services to Cardiff from Birmingham (2 hrs 30 minutes), Bristol (50 minutes), Edinburgh (7hrs), Liverpool (3hrs 45 minutes), London (2hrs), Newcastle upon Tyne (6hrs), Southampton (2hrs 40 minutes) and other UK cities: for details go to www.nationalrail.co.uk.

Cardiff International Airport is 11 miles from the city centre. Delegates travelling by plane might find it advantageous to explore flying KLM to Amsterdam and taking the regular KLM shuttle to Cardiff airport.
For those arriving at London Heathrow Airport, there is a regular train (the Heathrow Express) to London Paddington, where a direct rail service to Cardiff Central station can be picked up (journey time 2hrs); alternatively the RailAir bus service can be taken from Heathrow Central Bus Station to Reading, where the direct train service to Cardiff can be picked up. Train services from Gatwick Airport are via Reading.
