Open Day 2012
The School of Music, one of the largest and most diverse music departments in the UK, would like to invite prospective students to Cardiff University’s Open Day on Wednesday 25 April 2012.
The School of Music offers undergraduate courses leading to the Honours degrees of BMus (in which you only take music modules) and BA (which offers the opportunity of taking either a Joint degree or one in which you may take non-music modules).
Our courses include all areas of music including history, theory and practical. We have a number of practical groups ranging from the Symphony Orchestra and Choral Society to the Chamber Orchestra and Choir, Big Band, Wind Band, Contemporary Music Group and various smaller instrumental and vocal groups. Each year we mount a major concert in the St. David’s Hall where the repertoire has recently included Verdi’s Four Sacred Pieces, Britten’s Cantata Academica, scenes from Musorgsky’s Boris Godunov, Janacek’s Sinfonietta, Tchaikovsky’s ‘Pathetique’ Symphony and Mahler’s First Symphony.
Open Day is an opportunity to come see what Cardiff School of Music has to offer. Staff and current students will be on hand to answer questions, show you around our building and extensive onsite Music Library, demonstrate studio facilities and computing facilities including specialist music software.
Interested in Jazz in the Modern World or the History of Musical Instruments? You can also experience academic life as a Cardiff student by sitting in on some of the lectures running on the day.
Cardiff students become engaged in a vibrant musical community and we’re proud of the many performance opportunities we offer. Visitors on Open Day are welcome to attend a seminar masterclass for final year recitalists, a lunchtime concert given by students, and a Chamber Orchestra rehearsal.
