Dr Robert Piencikowski is on the research staff of the Paul Sacher Foundation in Basle, Switzerland. The Foundation is home to the richest repository of composer sketches and compositional materials in the world, including manuscripts by Birtwistle, Lutoslawski and Stravinsky which have been central to recent research by members of staff at the School of Music at Cardiff University.
Dr Piencikowski is a noted authority on Pierre Boulez and has published and given keynote papers on the sketches of key works such as Le Marteau sans maitre. He has also published his research on other major figures of the post-war avant-garde, including Kurtág, Ligeti and Stockhausen.
